Resurrection has been serving the Tidewater area since 1965 when a small group of worshipers gathered in members’ living rooms for services. The name Resurrection was chosen in 1969. Seven pastors (and 2 interim pastors) have served Resurrection since that time.
In 1973 the church moved to its first permanent facility on Providence Road in Virginia Beach. The facility served Resurrection well for more than thirty years. Due to continuing growth, the congregation decided in 2002 to purchase land and build a larger facility on Centerville Turnpike in Chesapeake. Construction began in 2005 and was completed in the fall of 2007.
An important step in the congregation’s history was the addition of a second pastor. This marks the first time in the congregation’s history that she is served by two pastors. Rev. Eric Roecker, began ministering to the congregation in 1998 and Rev. Jonathan Fischer in 2006. The congregation has 346 members.
Our Mission
Joined by a common faith in Christ our Savior and called to be ambassadors of His gospel, Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church has both a local and worldwide mission:
- The nurturing of our congregational members, of all ages, through vigorous and consistent use of God’s Word and sacraments and ministries of mercy, and serving both the spiritual and physical needs of the community by actively reaching the lost through our witnessing and works of mercy.
- The supporting of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod’s worldwide law and gospel outreach though our prayers and financial gifts.
